Sunday Dinners

Sunday Dinners growing up, what cherished memories. This was always a wonderful meal, best meal of the week. My memory recalls pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots and fresh baked rolls…if we were lucky orange rolls! Ahhhhh yes what a wonderful smells. I loved sitting around a beautifully set table, Mom’s china sparkling. I remember Michael could eat his weight in mashed potatoes. I remember if we had Martinellie’s to drink Natalie would get very silly. Tiffany and I would “calmly” rock, paper, scissors for the last orange roll and while we were doing that Joey would  just take it. Yes good times. I loved that we usually had the full time missionaries over and it was fun to talk with them. I recall us telling riddles when we were young and then as we matured we would tell jokes….Johnny always had the best ones. When Grandma Ruth was alive she always helped make the dinner especially delicious and a fun dessert was the coconut cake she would share with us. Those happy memories of Sunday dinner have continued into our adult years, those lucky ones who lived in the same town as Mom and Dad got a real treat of having a Sunday Dinner all taken care of for their families every Sunday, I loved getting to be a part of that for special occasions or when time & schedules would allow us to just be there on a Sunday to enjoy those Sunday dinners.

Sunday Dinners
As an adult I have cherished the tradition of going over to Mom and Dad's house to eat a delicious meal prepared by Mom and the dishes and cleaned up by Dad. It is the one day a week that I don't have to think about and prepare dinner. It is so nice to be spoiled. Mom has always gone to great lengths and made sure that the table is set with a beautiful tablecloth and china. She was recently doing a cousin camp and her house cleaner said WOW you guys are really FANCY. I had to chuckle at that comment. I guess not everyone gets to enjoy a well dressed table every Sunday. I am grateful to think that I was taught how to properly set a nice table. Tonight mom sang to Brianna get your elbows off the table Brianna Knight this is not a horses table but a decent dining table get your elbows off the table Brianna Knight and it brought back memories of singing that to whoever the ill mannored child was for the night. Dinners were always fun at our house whether it was reminsing over Dad waking us up because we had lost his comb or talking about sports or even just making fun of eachother. I have often been accused of getting tipsy on Martinelli's but really it is just two great loves of mine are food and family.
